X-ray
CeCe
Dear Dr Yang,
Because of recent sickness, i need to have my lungs X-rayed next week, but i didn't tell the doctor that i had breast implants (cohesive gel implants from 2 years ago), are the implants going to be damaged by the X-ray? Also, will the implants block the X-ray making the film unclear?
Also, as a part of body check, what kind of procedures (especially chest and breast scans or similar) should I avoid, and what alternatives do i have? If possible, please tell me also the English name of these procedures, because i live in Australia.
Thankyou very much Dr Yang, i wait for your help

Dear CeCe:
Most of the examining procedures for chest and breast diseases will not damage the breast implants except the mammogram and the needle biopsy for bresat tumors. The cohesive gel implants are somewhat radio-opaque, so the X-ray film may show two circular zones of increased density and a certain tiny lesions may be masked by these shadows. Further examination (e.g. MRI) will be needed if any positive finding is highly suspected.
